‘Launch’ Mobile App: Product Design Case Study

I led the end-to-end product design for a mobile experience that helps prospective and enrolled students stay connected throughout their educational journey while giving universities a powerful tool to improve student retention and reduce stopouts.

The challenge was to simplify what is often a fragmented student experience. Students frequently have to navigate multiple systems for admissions, enrollment, financial aid, course planning, advising, career services, and academic updates. This complexity often leads to missed deadlines, confusion, and ultimately students pausing or abandoning their education.

 

I designed a unified mobile platform that serves as a personalized student success hub, bringing together the information, resources, and support students need at every stage of their journey—from exploring programs through graduation.

 

My Design Process

 

I began by mapping the complete student lifecycle to identify pain points and opportunities where better communication and guidance could improve engagement. Beginning as a concept for an ‘innovation challenge,’ I translated business goals and student needs into a scalable product experience.

 

The design process included:

  • User journey mapping across the enrollment and academic lifecycle
  • Information architecture for complex student workflows
  • Wireframing and interactive prototyping
  • Visual design aligned with university branding
  • Designing reusable components for scalability across institutions

Product Impact

 

By consolidating critical student services into one intuitive mobile experience, the app reduces friction throughout the student journey. Students receive proactive guidance instead of having to search across multiple university systems, helping them stay on track and engaged.

 

For universities, the platform improves communication, increases student engagement, supports retention initiatives, and helps reduce stopouts by ensuring students complete important milestones before they become barriers to persistence.
